Controller not detected? What to check
A controller missing from the tester is not proof that it is broken. First check whether your system recognises it, then whether the browser receives its inputs. Follow these steps and return to the tester after each change.
1. Check the connection
For USB, use a cable that carries data; charging alone is not enough. Try another port or cable. For Bluetooth, confirm it is paired and connected in your system settings. This website does not perform pairing.
2. Press a button with the tab visible
Open the tester in its own tab, click the page and press a controller button. The browser may wait for that interaction before exposing the device. If several controllers are connected, check which one is selected.
3. Check the browser
Use the site’s HTTPS address. If you are inside another app’s embedded browser, open the link in a separate, updated browser. Compare with another browser to check whether detection depends on it; support varies by device and system.
4. Isolate configuration changes
Temporarily close games and remapping tools, reconnect the controller and reload the page. Compare USB and Bluetooth separately. Change one thing at a time to identify what allows it to appear.
5. Detected, but the test will not start
The guided test requires standard mapping and at least four valid axes. A controller with another mapping can display numbered buttons and axes without enabling that test. This avoids assigning potentially incorrect stick names; it is not a fault diagnosis.
If it is still missing
Check whether it works in your system or another application, and consult manufacturer support for that model and connection. Note the model, operating system, browser and whether you use USB or Bluetooth. These details help separate a compatibility limitation from a connection issue. We do not claim to have tested every Xbox, PlayStation or generic controller model.
